Apply to be this year’s Many Hands Project recipient!

The College is calling out to all Niagara-based charitable organizations in need of renovation, as applications are now being accepted for the 2016-2017 Many Hands Project.

The annual renovation project enhances, improves and renovates the facilities of a local charitable organization. All aspects of the project are planned, managed and completed by students from NC’s Event Management (post-graduate) and construction studies programs.

This will mark the 20th anniversary of the Many Hands Project and all Niagara-based not-for-profit organizations – including previous recipients – are welcome to apply. Applicants are asked to submit a wish list including construction needs or specific resources (like food or other items) that would help to develop their programming. The Many Hands Project advisory committee will consider opportunities to potentially support multiple organizations across the region this year.

“Many Hands provides our students with excellent hands-on learning opportunities, while teaching important lessons in community service and leadership,” said Christine Blane, coordinator of NC’s Event Management (post-graduate) program. “It’s also a chance for a local agency to receive much-needed improvements to their facilities.”

Since 1997, the College’s Many Hands Project has supported 19 not-for-profit organizations through renovation and landscaping projects which enhance program and service delivery. This year’s Many Hands Project resulted in a complete renovation of the Hope Centre in Welland. The Hope Centre received a new soup kitchen, dining area and food bank supported by the College’s Event Management students who ran a series of successful fundraising events. Recent projects have also been completed at Strive Niagara in Welland, Upper Deck Youth Centre in Vineland, Port Cares Reach Out Food Centre in Port Colborne, St. John Ambulance in St. Catharines, and more.

Niagara charitable organizations can apply to become the College’s next Many Hands Project any time before August 8. Application forms are available online at www.niagaracollege.ca/manyhands/

Eligible agencies must be not-for-profit, involved in the provision of a community-based service in the Niagara region, and be willing to commit agency resources to the project. Project selection is determined by the Many Hands Project Advisory Committee.

The Many Hands Project is a hands-on component of Niagara College’s Event Management Graduate Certificate program. Students are required to plan, develop, coordinate and execute a renovation of a local community non-profit organization. Fundraising, volunteer management, technical operations, hospitality and public relations are the responsibility of individual committees comprised of students. Since 1997, the Many Hands Project has supported 19 not-for-profit organizations through renovation and landscaping projects, which enhance program and service delivery.
