Many Hands accepting applications for 2013 project

Niagara College’s Many Hands Committee is accepting applications for the 2013 Many Hands Project – a student-led renovation project that will enhance, improve and renovate the facilities of a local charitable organization.

As in years past, students will plan all aspects of the project, which will take place during winter 2013.

Last year’s project resulted in a successful renovation of the Lincoln County Branch of St. John Ambulance. Students from NC’s Construction Renovation Technician program, under the supervision of faculty and in collaboration with sub-trades contracted by St. John Ambulance, completed a wide range of renovations designed to make the facility barrier-free, make better use of existing space and ensure safety standards are met for the organization’s training courses.

The organization of the project was handled by students in the Event Management Graduate Certificate program, who also organized and executed a series of successful fundraising events and activities in support of the project.

Applications are now being accepted from local not-for-profit community organizations for the 2013 Many Hands Project. The deadline for applications is August 27, 2012, and application forms are available online at

Eligible agencies must be not-for-profit, involved in the provision of a community-based service in the Niagara Region, and be willing to commit agency resources to the project. Selection of the project will be determined through the Many Hands Project Advisory Committee.

The Many Hands Project is a hands-on component of Niagara College’s Event Management Graduate Certificate program. Students are required to plan, develop, co-ordinate and execute a renovation of a local community non-profit organization. Fundraising, volunteer management, technical operations, hospitality and public relations are the responsibility of individual committees comprised of students. Since 1998, the Many Hands Project has supported 15 not-for-profit organizations through renovation and landscaping projects, which enhance program and service delivery.
